There’s a reason we’ve all been wearing wooly jumpers for years; the insulating qualities of sheep wool are second to none.
With 25% of heat escaping through the roof of a property, it is especially important to insulate this area. Laying wool in the loft creates a thermal barrier slowing the movement of hot air from, and cold air into, the home. This significantly lowers heating bills!
You don’t need to worry about the insulation making your home too hot in the summer – it can actually help to keep you cool. It helps keep your home at a moderate temperature by preventing warm air leaking in through your walls on hot days.
Whereas other wool insulating products on the market contain manmade fibres, glues and pesticides, our Optimal sheep wool insulation is 100% natural.
There are several reasons why sheep wool is such a good insulator:
1. The crimped fibres of sheep wool allow air to be trapped, slowing heat transfer.
2. Sheep wool is breathable so even when damp, its performance doesn’t drop and it even regulates moisture levels in the loft.
3. Sheep wool is extremely durable, so it can retain its thermal insulating qualities even when compressed, bent and stretched.
4. It is easier to work with than other insulating materials, as the soft wool can be handled easily into position. Because it’s natural, it causes no itchiness and no breathing difficulties.
Using the thermal conductivity of this product (0.042), you can work out either the thickness you require or the U-Value you will achieve. Simply divide the Thermal Conductivity by the thickness to work out the U-Value, or divide it by the U-Value you want to reach to work out the thickness required.
If you have any trouble working out either of these calculations, please call us on 0208 1333849.
